We are currently seeking a Returnable Packaging Specialist to join our North America Logistics team at our world headquarters in Perrysburg, Ohio.
POSITION
Summary:
This position is accountable for managing all returnable packaging inventories for North America at our plants and at the 3rd Party Sort & Repair Service Providers and for determining the need for the purchase of any new materials based on the needs of the business.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
(All other duties as assigned)
Develops and maintains a good working relationship with Materials Managers, Plant Controllers, Shipping Managers, Quality Managers and 3rd Party Sort & Repair Companies.
Works with Finance and Pricing Leadership to ensure Returnable Packaging costs are in line with budgets.
Monitors returnable packaging assets to ensure there is adequate inventory of each type of material to meet North Americas operational needs while minimizing cost.
Coordinates the supply and demand of material between the Returnable Packaging Coordinator, 3rd Party Service Providers and our Manufacturing Plants,
Manages returnable packaging in SAP by Receiving material into the 3rd Party Companies, Transferring Goods from quality hold when it is first received to either Usable Stock or Scrap, and then moving inventory to each respective plant as needed.
Assists with plant-to-plant internal transfers to meet production requirements.
Monitors 3rd Party Sort & Repair companies to hold them accountable for inventory accuracy by requiring monthly cycle counts to confirm their records. After discrepancies are investigated and confirmed, will make necessary adjustments to the system inventory to update the balances.
Communicates internally and to external vendors the business acceptance guidelines and specifications.
Works with purchasing to identify and qualify returnable packaging suppliers that can meet O-Is specifications.
Works with vendors supplying products for imports & exports to ensure compliance to the ISPM 15 government regulation for wood products and communicates information to all OI facilities.
Assist in securing NAFTA certificates from vendors to assist in transportation across borders.
Works with Sort & Repair companies on non conformance issues related to either new, used or repaired products and assist Procurement and Quality with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Reconciles outstanding freight invoices for inbound and outbound returnable packaging materials.
Secures, analyzes and reconciles monthly physical inventories of returnable packaging at all plants.
Validates plant supply requirements and is assigned approver for purchase requisitions.
Responsible to meet the appropriate COTs (critical operating tasks) for Returnable Packaging developed annually that supports O-Is Strategic Priorities
Supports SOX compliance and any internal audits; seeks remedies to ensure conformance with policies and procedures.
Furnishes analysis and cost data for use in planning, budgeting and other functional activities.
Manages compliance for Records Management / Record Retention.
SCOPE AND IMPACT:
Responsible to manage a $40 million returnable packaging float at O-I plants and the 3rd Party Sort and Repair Service Providers.
This position is the first approver for all Plant requisitions to purchase any returnable packaging materials and will confirm the need before Plant leaderships approval (which is typically a recurring expenditure of $20 million annually).
Then manages and reconciles inventories across the network similar to a plant Materials Manager to maintain the integrity of these major financial assets.
Position Requirements
EDUCATION AND
Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain, Finance or related field; basic accounting knowledge required
Prefer 1 - 3 years experience; Supply Chain, Finance, Customer Service or other related fields
Proven ability to communicate at different levels with internal & external stakeholders
Results focused with a can do attitude and business savvy.
Must be able to work both independently and with teams. Has to use sound judgment on when to obtain necessary information and then be willing to make decisions
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, communication & analytical skills
Working experience with ERP systems; SAP experience a plus
Working familiarity with Power Point and Word; Analytical and Proficient at using Excel (database management)
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Senior Warehouse Specialist. The Senior Warehouse Specialist reports to the NA Warehousing Manager. The NA Warehousing Manager reports to the Director of Logistics.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel required is less than 15% (predominantly US and Canada).
